David Scholefield, Wine Advisor
Few in the wine industry need an introduction to David Scholefield. It’s not only because of his personality, experience, and profound global insight into the industry, but also because he’s lost so many of his beloved notebooks that (if they can read the writing) everyone in the wine world is privy to Scholefield’s ramblings and ranting about wine. He can often be found driving around town, stereo cranked to Thelonious Monk, talking on his cell phone (hands free of course) with bird books scattered on the passenger seat, and bottles of wine rattling in his trunk (even the empty ones, which he keeps if he likes the labels as a kind of physical visual dictionary of the good stuff he has tossed back). He’s a big guy; prone to corduroy, vests, and moss green, which brings out his intellectual side; but don’t be surprised by his sharp wit (coming from a man who sometimes, while travelling, can be found driving a rented Yaris). David's devotion to wine sustained him throughout his long career as senior wine buyer for the British Columbia Liquor Distribution Branch. His knowledge earned him a global reputation for the ability to shepherd allocations of the world's finest wines onto the shelves of BC liquor stores. David is a winery ambassador and one of the public faces of Okanagan Crush Pad. He will continue to lose moleskin notebooks all over the place. |
